Personally, I don’t think she’s qualified – but let’s not even go there. Let’s assume Sarah Palin IS qualified to be a "heartbeat away from the Presidency of the United States of America".
Here’s a given…
She’s not the BEST qualified Republican to assume that position.
Oh, I could toss out a few names of Republicans who are much more qualified that she is, but suffice it to say that Sarah Palin’s resume and experience are handily outpaced by each and every one of the other potential running mates John McCain had on his list.
What the lady is, however, is the BEST candidate to help the Republicans shore up and energize their conservative base.
She wasn’t chosen for her experience or her wisdom.
She wasn’t chosen for her understanding of the intricacies of foreign policy.
It wasn’t because she’s demonstrated an ability to maneuver her constituency around (or thru) dangerous political or financial challenges.
Heck, she wasn’t even chosen for her oil industry savvy.
She was chosen because she’s a "hockey mom" and a moose hunter. The allure she holds for John McCain is her stance on issues — issues that are like raw meat to the right-wing-conservative pit bulls of the Republican party.

- pro big-oil
- pro military
all of which is fine… it’s her right as an American citizen to hold those convictions.
But, here’s the deal – Sara Palin was chosen because she was the best running mate for John McCain, the best chance for John McCain to beat Barak Obama. She was NOT selected because she was the best person to be the second in command of the world’s largest democracy.
And because of that fact, it seems obvious that John McCain is behaving in exactly the same way he’s unfairly berated his opponent for:
His choice of Sarah Palin proves he’d rather win an election than do what’s best for his country.
