War to Promote Democracy

I heard some muckity-muck (didn’t catch his name or position) say that the Palestinian takeover in Gaza is likely to fail ’cause there isn’t the economic infrastructure to keep the area afloat.

He’d calculated it would take $6 billion to create a viable economic entity in the region — but the US, the European Union, and the other Arab States dismissed his request to contribute.

$6 billion…

Isn’t that the minimum we spend every month in Iraq?

And, uh, why are we spending $6 billion a month in Iraq?  "To promote democracy" we’re told.

And, uh, why are we fighting Islamic insurgents in Iraq?  One gi-moungous reason is ’cause they’re pissed off about the situation in Palestine.

You with me here?  It seems like a much smarter way to spend $6 billion — investing it one time in the democratic economy of Palestine instead of pissing it away every month (not to mention getting our best, brightest, and bravest shot, beheaded, and blown to bits) fighting some stupid war.

So, if we believe our current leadership, democracy in Iraq is worth spending $6 billion a month for years to come but democracy in Palestine is worth…
